If Salatin were to practice what he preaches, he would instantly recognize that the deplorable exploitation and violence that he advocates and perpetrates with casual abandon is anything but healing, respectful, or peaceful to the innocent victims and instead an abomination of these incredibly specific and inviolable qualities. As a vegetarian, I find it perverse and disturbing to glorify slaughter as sanctuary, let alone to call upon the persuasive powers of religion to justify it. Even the name "Polyface" is suspect: many faces? The many faces that are killed and eaten? Or the many faces that the meat industry takes to avoid being exposed for what it is; consuming animals is a choice, but don't let it be an unconscious one. How big do you think the smiles are on the pigs once they're dead? Confronting that reality should determine what an individual decides to eat--not being assuaged by a self-appointed religious figure into believing somehow that an animal's death for your consumption is an extension of a holy life.
