These young women are of the highest character, year in, year out. This also goes to the caliber of the staff, needless to say.As the father of a former member of this consistently Nationally Ranked Team and having attended many races/regattas, perhaps the most telling comment I ever heard came from the parent from an opposing team, this, after UVA had "swept" the South Central Regional Championships and were on their way to yet another appearance at the NCAA National Championships. The sport is rowing, the people who row are the crew (i.e. team members). Hence, saying "crew team" is redundant. It's: "the crew," or "Virginia Crew," or "Virginia Rowing Team." The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Parents and family members should complain to the administration and the paper and demand fair treatment. With a team like this, no one should be asking if Virginia has a rowing team. Think of the prestige accorded the English university rowing crews. You are absolutely correct. However, these past two articles have been excellent; I agree with Mr. Sill, some of the best rowing coverage I have read. We appreciate your appreciation; it is a reminder not to undervalue the work of the daily grind. Thank you.
