Like Mother, Like Daughter

The common phrase “like mother, like daughter” found new meaning at the Loma Linda University Medical Center labs in California, where plastic surgeons studied 10 similar mother-daughter pairs between the ages of 15 and 90 to compare their facial aging patterns.

Using facial imaging and 3-D computer modeling technologies, they discovered that the pattern of facial skin aging between mothers and daughters is almost exactly the same because of their skeletal and cellular make up. The research also showed that the most noticeable similarity between mother and daughter is the loosening and sagging of the skin around the eyes, which usually begins to surface around the daughters’ mid-30s. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons believes that these findings will greatly aid surgery performed in the eye region, which ranked as the fourth most popular plastic surgery procedure last year.
