Brian goal beats Wolfpack

The No. 8 Virginia women's soccer team picked up its fourth ACC victory of the season when freshman midfielder Morgan Brian scored a golden goal for a 1-0 overtime win at North Carolina State last night.

The decisive goal came during the ninth minute of overtime and gave the Cavaliers their third golden goal victory of the season. Senior forward Lauren Alwine played the ball across the face of the Wolfpack goal to Brian, who dribbled past senior goalkeeper Kim Kern and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Despite the slim winning margin, the Cavaliers (10-3-2, 4-2-1 ACC) statistically dominated the Wolfpack (9-5-2, 0-4-2 ACC) and owned advantages in shots taken, 16-2, and corner kicks, 5-2.

The game was the last road tilt of the season for Virginia, which is currently riding its first winning streak since starting the season 6-0.

The Cavaliers return to action Sunday afternoon against unranked Clemson at Klöckner Stadium.
