Team sees mixed results
The No. 17 Virginia women's cross country team tied for third place in the ACC Championship race, while the men's squad placed sixth at the conference event on the Musser Farms Course in Clemson, S.C. this past Saturday.
Junior Barbara Strehler spearheaded the Cavalier women, who finished in a third-place tie with N.C. State, with a team-best 14th-place finish during the 6k race. Strehler crossed the finish line at the 20:47.0 mark, earning her first career All-ACC nomination.
Sophomores Chelsea Ley, Kathleen Stevens, Katherine Walker and senior Anna Corrigan also contributed to the women's overall score with top-40 finishes.
The men, meanwhile, saw less overall success as they failed to record a top-five finish at the event for the first time since 1998. Despite the disappointing final placing, the Cavalier men saw an impressive individual performance from fifth-year senior Mark Amirault. The Princeton transfer secured a third-place finish in the 8k event with a finishing time of 23:10.8. Like Strehler, Amirault also nabbed All-ACC honors for his efforts.
Amirault and the rest of the Cavaliers return to action Friday as they host the Cavalier Open.
