“In order to ensure that such change would respond to real and present needs, we asked for suggestions from the entire University community as to how best to allocate those funds,” the society said in an email.

The Seven Society announced Monday it will donate $77,777 to CAPS and $37,777 to the Women’s Center in response to the series of trying events which affected Grounds last semester.

Along with their pledge at the end of last semester to donate $57,777 “toward engendering meaningful social change on Grounds in response to the most trying period of University life in recent memory,” the Society said it received an anonymous matching donation of $57,777.

“In order to ensure that such change would respond to real and present needs, we asked for suggestions from the entire University community as to how best to allocate those funds,” the Society said in an email.

Based on proposals from students, faculty, staff and alumni, the Seven Society chose to divide its donation between CAPS and the Women’s Center.

“CAPS was consistently nominated as an ideal recipient for the outstanding service and care that counselors and staff provide daily to students,” the Society said. “We hope that our gift may bolster their work toward providing students with the strength necessary to engage in the community of understanding and care that is our aim.”

The group also said it received numerous messages from students and alumni who highlighted the important role in the University community of the Women’s Center, as well as a comprehensive proposal from the center itself.

“We are grateful to CAPS and the Women’s Center for all that they do to contribute to the health and good conscience of our students,” the Society said. “It is our hope that our donations will not only further their good work, but will more broadly encourage the kind of action and attention necessary to realize the empathy and understanding that must lie at the heart of this place.”
