The Virginia women’s basketball team ended a six-game skid with a 61-50 win at Boston College Sunday. Senior guard Faith Randolph struggled to hit shots in her return from injury, but her mere presence as a distributor freed up teammates.

Three Cavalier sophomores finished in double figures. Point guard Mikayla Venson scored a game-high 19 points on 13 attempts. Forward Lauren Moses notched her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 15 boards, including six on the offensive glass, while guard Aliyah Huland El contributed 13 points.

Virginia (14-12, 4-8 ACC) went on a 15-4 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and the first four minutes of the second. Six different Cavaliers made at least one bucket during that stretch of unselfish play to give Virginia a 25-14 advantage. That lead remained safe until the Eagles (13-12, 1-11 ACC) responded with a 14-2 run of their own.

A trifecta courtesy of Boston College junior guard Kelly Hughes — her only three Sunday in six attempts — cut the Cavalier lead to 52-46 midway through the fourth quarter. Venson, however, spotted up behind the line at 4:31 and drilled her third three-pointer of the game off Randolph’s sixth assist.

Up three possessions then, a poised Virginia five took care of the basketball and converted at the free-throw line. Huland El laid the ball in after Venson’s smooth dish for the game’s final basket. The Cavaliers closed what was largely a heartbreaking weekend for Virginia athletics on a positive note.
