Women’s golf kicked off its spring season on a somewhat inconsistent note, posting a ninth-place team finish at the FSU Matchup over the weekend.
After a 17-over 305 showing in the opening round Friday, the team bounced back in Saturday’s second round, shooting 10-over 298. That performance pushed Virginia to a tie for sixth place, just six shots outside of the top five.
However, the Cavaliers struggled again in Sunday’s round, posting an 18-over 306, which sent the team back to 9th place overall.
Individually, senior Lauren Coughlin continued her strong play from the fall season and finished eighth overall at 3-over 219. Her performance included a 1-under 71 in Sunday’s final round. It was Coughlin’s seventh career top-10 finish and third this year. Behind her was freshman Morgan Gonzales, who finished 29th overall at 11-over 227.
Overall, Virginia finished at 45-over 909, the first time they have exceeded 900 strokes this year. Florida State ultimately took home the team title for the weekend on their home course, finishing at 7-over 871, four strokes ahead of runner-up South Carolina.
The Cavaliers hit the links again this weekend at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, LA.
