The season six premiere of "Suits" depicts the aftermath of Mike Ross's incarceration.

Season six of “Suits,” which premiered July 13, shattered the show’s original premise and promises a captivating new direction.

Starring fake-lawyer Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and real-lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), “Suits” has always managed to enthrall viewers with nail-biting cliffhangers and unexpected emotional narratives. However, the drama’s previous focus on protecting Mike’s lack of credentials is no longer relevant, guaranteeing a season unlike any before it.

In the past, “Suits” has succeeded by showcasing Mike and Harvey’s unique dynamic. The overarching objective was to keep Mike’s secret under wraps in the last five seasons. However, this setup changed after Mike was jailed for fraud in the season five finale.

The season six premiere depicts the aftermath of Mike’s incarceration, and viewers will be exposed to new character flaws and changes in relationships. After five years of focusing on the same goal of keeping Mike’s secret, “Suits” creator Aaron Korsh is successfully keeping audiences on their toes by presenting different challenges and dangers. Viewers are in for a whirlwind season as characters, especially Mike’s love interest Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle), learn to deal with Mike behind bars.

Though Mike’s relationships with his colleagues and loved ones are seemingly disconnected, other characters attempt to maintain their roles in each other’s lives. After Mike’s incarceration, name partners Harvey Specter, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) must deal with the after-effects of hiring a fraudulent lawyer. The comforts of their luxurious lives and careers are threatened by the law firm’s tarnished reputation. In the first episode they experience many important moments of reflection struggling to keep their lives intact, providing viewers with deeper insight into their characters.

If the premiere is any indication, this season of “Suits” will bring about life-changing character developments and resulting plot twists. In addition to classic movie quotes and snappy comebacks, Korsh sticks to his formula of building up suspense and emotion in each episode. The new context of season six will allow him to engage and surprise audiences in innovative ways.

In the aftermath of a transformative and chaotic change, “Suits” season six promises to shine a new light on its characters and to delve into refreshingly inventive storylines.
