The No. 18 Virginia men’s lacrosse team went into Saturday’s match against No. 8 Duke looking to pick up its first ACC win of the season and to end the regular season on a high note. However, the Cavaliers (8-6, 0-4 ACC) were unable to accomplish their goal, with with the Blue Devils (10-3, 3-1 ACC) proving to be too much to handle. Duke continued its strong season and beat Virginia thoroughly by the score of 20-11.

Duke came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, outscoring Virginia 6-0 in the first quarter and starting off the match on a dominating 8-1 run. Duke scored two more goals to head into halftime with a comfortable 10-2 lead on its home field.

However, Virginia refused to give up and picked up their level of play, as the two teams remained neck-and-neck the rest of the match. Duke only outscored Virginia in the second half by a score of 10-9.

However, the Cavaliers could not produce a run like Duke did in the first quarter in order to dig themselves out of the hole they faced.

Senior attackman Ryan Lukacovic had a strong performance for the Cavaliers, scoring four goals and notching three assists to total seven points on the day. Virginia will now get some time to rest and prepare for ACC Championship weekend, which will begin April 28.
