The Virginia women’s basketball team (11-16, 5-9 ACC) beat Georgia Tech (17-10, 7-7 ACC) 53-45 in their final home game of the season Sunday afternoon.

The win occurred on Virginia’s Senior Day, as the Cavaliers honored senior forward Moné Jones and junior forward Shakyna Payne, who redshirted her freshman year, in a pregame ceremony. The Cavaliers also wore pink jerseys as part of the Play4Kay cancer awareness initiative.

Junior forward Lisa Jablonowski led Virginia with 16 points, while junior small forward Jocelyn Willoughby and junior guard Dominique Toussaint each posted double-doubles. Willoughby had 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, while Toussaint accumulated 10 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double for Willoughby was her fourth consecutive.

Sophomore guard Khyasia Caldwell came off the bench for her second-straight double-digit scoring performance. The 5-foot-5 Caldwell scored 10 points with a career-high 7 rebounds for Virginia Sunday.

Georgia Tech led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cavaliers outscored the Yellow Jackets 11-5 in the second to take a 20-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. The two teams only combined for 37 total points in the first half –– the lowest for Virginia all season.

Virginia grew their lead to as many as 10 points in the third on a jumper by Willoughby with 4:10 to play. However, Georgia Tech closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to make it 32-29 heading into the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets took a 33-32 lead with 8:32 remaining in the game on a layup by freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun. The two teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the quarter, until Toussaint hit a three-pointer with 1:52 to go to give Virginia a 47-45 advantage.

A layup by Jablonowski and free throws from Jablonowski and Toussaint helped the Cavaliers pull away and seal the win in the final minute.

Virginia next plays on the road against Virginia Tech Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
