The Theta Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu fraternities had their Fraternal Organization Agreements suspended by the University, while the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity had its FOA terminated after allegations of hazing, according to Ben Ueltschey, Inter-Fraternity Council president and third-year College student. While the Theta Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu fraternities face temporary suspensions, the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity will have its FOA terminated for a minimum of four years. It is unclear when the violations in all three chapters took place or when the University moved to suspend and terminate their FOAs.

The Good Ol’ Song echoed across the Lawn Friday morning as admitted students to the Class of 2028 gathered for the final session of Days on the Lawn, an annual spring program that invites newly admitted students and their families to experience information sessions, resource fairs and tours around Grounds. This year, DOTL welcomed admitted students from all schools of enrollment across four days, as opposed to last year’s DOTL, which featured four school-specific days.

This past weekend saw Virginia track and field stay home in Charlottesville to host the Virginia Challenge Friday and Saturday. The event was filled with Cavaliers making it onto Virginia all-time lists and recording personal bests and was highlighted by junior Nathan Mountain toppling the Virginia steeplechase record and running the “A” cut for the upcoming Olympic Trials. The weekend was wrapped up with a Senior Day celebration Saturday that honored the team’s graduating athletes.

Saturday’s game between No. 4 Virginia and No. 7 Syracuse at JMA Wireless Dome saw the teams battling back and forth in a game of runs. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers (10-3, 1-2 ACC), the Orange (11-4, 3-1 ACC) had the final one. Despite gaining possession twice in the final 45 seconds, Virginia was unable to score.

After a Commonwealth Clash loss to Virginia Tech Tuesday, and a devastating 12-inning loss Friday, Virginia managed two one-run victories Saturday to take two of three games against Duke in Durham, N.C. The Cavaliers (30-15, 13-8 ACC) had won just one game in 13 prior matchups against the No. 3 Blue Devils (39-6, 17-4 ACC), who had not lost a series in 2024 until facing Virginia.

As the final event of its Palestinian Liberation Week, Students for Justice in Palestine organized a die-in — a form of protest involving lying on the ground as if dead — on the Lawn Friday afternoon. The protest consisted of a speech by Josh Rosenberg, SJP president and third-year College student, followed by the reading of the names of 65 killed Palestinians, all members of a single family. A moment of silence followed before all attendees read a poem together titled “If I Must Die” by Refaat Alareer, a Palestinian writer and poet who was killed in December by an Israeli airstrike.

Craig Littlepage, Monica Wright Rogers and Chris Long are forever University legends. Littlepage served in the athletic department for 35 years — plus 9 years in various roles with the men’s basketball program — while the latter two inductees each enjoyed lengthy professional careers in the WNBA and NFL, respectively. This weekend, all three will officially be inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Virginia women’s lacrosse ended its regular season play on a high note Wednesday at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, as the Cavaliers (13-3, 6-3 ACC) got the better of their in-state rivals Virginia Tech by a 14-12 margin in the Commonwealth Clash. The win over the Hokies (9-8, 2-7 ACC) was another important one for Virginia in the ever-competitive ACC as the team carries momentum into the ACC Tournament.

Sophomore guard Ryan Dunn announced Tuesday his decision to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft and forgo his two remaining years of eligibility with Virginia. Dunn spent two seasons with the program, asserting himself as one of the nation’s premier defenders with 110 blocks in 65 games and a nod on the ACC All-Defensive Team this past season.

With the last day of classes in sight and the finish line so close, there's no time to give up. These revitalizing songs will give University students the needed push and inspiration to power through exam season to the end of the academic year.

Tucked away on Avon Street lies a hidden gem that invites the curious. Barbie’s Burrito Barn, a quaint and cozy eatery, serves up mouthwateringly authentic California Mexican food. Barbie’s is only a short 10-minute drive from Grounds and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesdays to Thursdays and until 7 p.m. Fridays. Barbie’s stands out as a restaurant with fare that is scrumptious yet affordable for college students on a budget. Dining there this past Tuesday emerged as the highlight of my week, leaving me thoroughly impressed and eager to return.

Student Council debated a bill that would advocate for increased support of students with allergies at on-Grounds food service establishments during their general body meeting Tuesday. Additionally, Student Council also began reviewing the 2024 summer budget which is newly-designed to last until September.

Coming off of a 2-1 series victory over NC State last weekend, Virginia softball returned to Palmer Park Tuesday to face off against rival Virginia Tech for its first Commonwealth Clash game of the year. The Cavaliers (28-14, 11-8 ACC) got shut out by the Hokies (32-9-1, 15-4 ACC) — who entered on a five-game winning streak — in a 6-0 loss.

The Honor Committee met Sunday in the second meeting of the 2024-2025 term to deliberate on the future of its sanctioning procedures, which will be guided by the newly established ad hoc Committee on sanctions — which is the subcommittee that has been tasked with evaluating sanctioning options and processes. The Honor Committee acknowledged the importance of filling the gap between restorative measures, like educational seminars, and punitive sanctions, like suspension and expulsion. The Committee also deliberated options for a generative Artificial Intelligence policy, agreeing to seek out community feedback to inform its decisions on AI usage.

Leo Afonso played his final game for Virginia men’s soccer in November. He left Charlottesville in December after being drafted by Inter Miami CF in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft. He was logging minutes for the first team by March, and by April, he had signed his first professional contract, made his first professional start and scored his first professional goal. Now, Afonso is sharing the field with a handful of world superstars less than half a year on from his time with the Cavaliers.

For only the second time in program history, Virginia women’s tennis are ACC Regular Season co-champions thanks to a pair of back-to-back home victories this weekend against No. 19 Miami and No. 23 Florida State. The Cavaliers (20-3, 12-1 ACC) bested the Hurricanes (10-6, 8-4 ACC) in a dominant 6-1 victory that was played despite windy conditions and a rain delay. They then took on the Seminoles (15-7, 9-4 ACC) Sunday, closing out the regular season on a victorious 4-2 high note. Virginia will share the regular season title with No. 4 North Carolina, as both teams are 12-1 in conference play.

While many Virginia men’s basketball fans have yet to get over this season’s disheartening debacle, it is time for Cavalier supporters to turn their collective attention to former members of the program who are in the professional ranks. The NBA Playoffs are imminent, and many of Virginia’s former heroes will be chasing the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. Here are a few Cavaliers that have a chance at hardware in 2024.
