UJC reflects on successful semester

As the spring semester opens, the University Judiciary Committee will look to continue its progress increasing its outreach and transparency efforts. "It seemed like in the past we've had difficulty directly communicating what our procedures look like at the University," Vice Chair for First-Years Will Bane said, "but this semester UJC plans to show the student body "[what we are] here to do and how we do it." The Committee hopes to hold a UJC Awareness Day later in the spring to facilitate this communication, Chair Michael Chapman said.

Committee seeks to modify procedures

The Honor Committee is currently looking at two changes to its constitutional bylaws and general policies that would have a significant impact on the honor system as a whole. The first of these changes occurred at Sunday's weekly meeting, during which the Committee passed its new plagiarism and paraphrasing supplement in a 19-0 vote.

Learning to be honorable

Throughout the semester, the Honor Committee has re-worked and re-examined many of its education efforts in the hopes of increasing awareness and knowledge about its system. "Honor has the potential to impact a student's career ... either positively or negatively," Vice Chair for Education Rob Atkinson said.

FYJC chair recommends altering FYJC term length

University Judiciary Committee members last night reviewed a proposed amendment that would define term length for the First Year Judiciary Committee and add this new definition to the committee's constitution and bylaws. The amendment, presented by outgoing FYJC Chair Halley Epstein, also clarifies who will adjudicate first-year trials during the lame-duck session, which is the period from August, when FYJC members have officially entered their second-year, to October, when the new FYJC is elected. Currently, the FYJC's term limits are not defined in UJC's constitution or by-laws.
