UVa Orthopaedic Center ranked among the best in the nation

National health care publication “Becker’s Hospital Review” recognized the University Medical Center’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery on its 2014 list, “125 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopaedic Programs.” The review noted that the orthopaedic surgery departments honored “provide outstanding patient care, advance cutting-edge orthopaedic research and treat professional athletes.” The University Medical Center previously earned recognition for orthopaedic excellence from U.S.

A new way to detect ovarian cancer

Tampons could help detect early-stage ovarian cancer, according to a pilot study led by a University medical researcher in collaboration with colleagues at Johns Hopkins University and University of Alabama at Birmingham.

University becomes part of national network for brain health

The University Health System has joined a national effort to seek treatments for neurological diseases, taking part in the SPRINT-MS trial within the Network for Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials, also known as NeuroNEXT. The network, made up of 28 hospitals, is sponsored by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, which is part of the National Institutes of Health.
