Nicki and Katelyn were well-matched in conversation, although they each got more of a friendly vibe.

Nicki

Year: Fourth

Major: Biology

U.Va. Involvement: Madison House, previously a volunteer firefighter, ASB, GDI

Hometown: McLean, Virginia

Ideal Date: Hair color doesn’t matter but would be eternally grateful for a redhead, tallish preferred, normal body type. Aka: if you find me a U.Va. women’s soccer player, I’ll name one of our future kids after the Cav Daily.

Ideal Date Personality: Sense of humor is a must.

Ideal Date Activity: If the weather is nice, an outside coffee date.

Deal breakers: Smoking cigarettes, hipsters.

Describe a typical weekend: Waking up early to watch Premier League soccer, going out to eat, procrastination via Yik Yak, hanging with friends.

Hobbies: I love food, sports, “Family Feud”

What makes you a good catch? I’d like to think I’m hilarious, and I’m the perfect gentleman.

What makes you a less-than-perfect catch? Unfortunately, my hair is already thinning. #baldingandbeautiful

What is your spirit animal? Jimmy Fallon

What's your favorite pick-up line? Do you like cheesy pick-up lines? Because I’m grate in bed!

Describe yourself in one sentence: I am in a committed relationship with my Keurig.

Katelyn

Year: Third

Major: Chemical Engineering

U.Va. Involvement: Greek Life, American Institute of Chemical Engineering

Hometown: Richmond, Virginia

Ideal Date: Athletic build, light hair, taller than 5’ 7”

Ideal Date Personality: Enigmatic, free spirit, intellectually stimulating, witty, adventurous, spontaneous, respectful, charismatic, driven, honest, likes guacamole.

Ideal Date Activity: Carter’s Mountain for the day. Have you ever had those doughnuts?

Deal breakers: Annoying voice, bad personal hygiene, overly sensitive, likes cats more than dogs, hasn’t seen “Star Wars.”

Describe a typical weekend: Going out in the evenings, exploring Charlottesville during the day on Saturday, procrastinating Sunday.

Hobbies: Binge watching Netflix, volunteering, hiking, sleeping, reading, traveling, skiing, etc.

What makes you a good catch? I’m always up for a good time — I don’t take life too seriously. I love “Game of Thrones” and “Star Wars.” I’m very passionate and very opinionated. I’m a dog person, which immediately qualifies me as better than 50 percent of human beings. I’m smart.

What makes you a less-than-perfect catch? I’m loud. Like really loud. And really opinionated. I tend to dominate conversations, so I’d like someone who can keep up. I get bored of people easily.

What is your spirit animal? Leslie Knope. And Pizza.

Describe yourself in one sentence: Wild women don’t get the blues.

Nicki and Katelyn met on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Old Cabell Hall and went to Starbucks on the Corner.

Nicki: Signing up was one of those “I’m a fourth-year — I need to take advantage of every possible resource U.Va. has to offer” moments.

Katelyn: Honestly, my roommate signed me up. I was reluctant at first, but then I agreed because I didn’t think I would get selected.

Nicki: I [had] not been on a blind date before. I had no major expectations. I hoped there wouldn’t be any awkwardness, but other than that, I didn’t know what to expect.

Katelyn: I laughed a bit because it had been a year [since I submitted my survey]. I had totally forgotten [my friend] even signed me up, so when I got the text, I freaked out a bit. I called my friends and was like, “OH MY GOD, WHAT DO I DO?” and then they convinced me to go.

Nicki: She was pretty much the only one standing outside. I was a little late, so I immediately said sorry. [We] decided on where to go and started walking.

Katelyn: He was late, so I almost left. It was pretty chilly outside. But then when he arrived, we went on our way to Starbucks.

Nicki: She looked like she was a little hesitant as I was walking up, so I tried to make her as comfortable as possible.

Katelyn: He seemed really polite and like a nice guy. He asked if I was hungry and what I wanted to do on our date. I was excited to get to know him a bit.

Nicki: I asked her if she wanted to get dinner, but she said she had already eaten, so we decided to go to Starbucks.

Katelyn: Normally, I am usually the one driving a conversation, but this one was really easy. We both had a lot to share and had a really engaging conversation.

Nicki: We talked about the craziest thing we’ve done at U.Va. My first year, I ran through my chem lecture dressed [as] a banana [and was] chased by a gorilla costume [as part of] an agreement with my roommates.

Katelyn: I don’t know that we had a whole lot in common, but we were both great conversationalists. And I guess, because we both cared about what the other was saying, it was like we had things in common.

Nicki: I wouldn’t say there was too much flirting. I think more of a friend vibe.

Katelyn: I don’t think there was a romantic connection, but I would love to continue to get to know each other as friends.

Nicki: She was getting bombarded by texts [saying] she was late to a study group. On the way out, she said, “Make sure you don’t say anything bad about me in the newspaper or I’ll come find you.”

Katelyn: He offered to pay, but I said no.

Nicki: I wouldn’t see myself going out with her again in a date sense, but I thought she was really cool, so if I ever came across her again I would definitely hang out with her.

Katelyn: I don’t believe in rankings. I had a nice time, and that’s what matters.

Nicki: I would rate the date a solid 7.
