Questions about Britain

After living in London for several months, I feel qualified to analyze various assumptions about Britain and its people - at least, enough to confirm or reject some widely-held stereotypes. Many questions I received during my stay regarded drinking and fast food, probably because I'm in college and have friends who are also in college.

Pickpockets

Although I had a great time during my Spring Break trip to Europe, I quickly realized keeping my guard up was the best strategy while visiting foreign countries. Before arriving in Spain, I heard tales of widespread pickpocketing in Barcelona.

The European guido

It is fair game to judge a book by its cover. Right now, I am not talking about books. I am talking about classifications of people. Before continuing, I would like to note I have never been a consultant for GQ nor do I presume to know a lot about fashion.

Travel planning tips

Throughout the process of traveling, I have been continually reminded of the saying: If you want it done right, do it yourself."

Friendly stereotypes

They may be their pals within the United Kingdom, but many English people have told me that it is considered acceptable to make fun of the Welsh.

A different kind of paper

During my time in London so far, I have noticed a higher degree of sensationalism than I am used to in print media - from advertisements and PSA posters at bus stops to the most popular newspapers in the country.

Questions, comments, concerns

The answer to the question "What is one of your greatest fears about studying abroad?" is usually something along the lines of "being homesick" or even "getting mugged in a dangerous city." Not for me.
