Sullivan hosts sexual violence discussion

University President Teresa Sullivan hosted a reception Thursday in the Special Collections Library to discuss the issue of sexual violence at the University. The reception covered a variety of issues, including the implementation of mandatory campus safety classes for students, how to better support survivors of sexual violence as a community, and the issue of alcohol and partying.

QSU, SOR host transgender activist Schofield

Transgender Rights Advocate Scott Schofield spoke at a vigil for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, co-hosted by Sigma Omicron Roe, the first gender-neutral fraternity on Grounds, and the Queer Student Union. Schofield invoked support for those affected by acts of violence against the transgender community.

Consulting: a common, but varied path

In 2013, 10 percent of University undergraduates went into Consulting Services, --the second most popular industry for students according to the University Career Services First Destinations Report, a report based on survey data of undergraduate plans upon graduation. UCS Director of Employer Relations, David Lapinski, described consulting as a “catch-all” for University undergraduates, attracting those from all schools and areas of study.

The Competition Effect

As September comes to a close, most upperclassmen have re-entered the academic mode. First years are continuing to acclimate to a new environment.

Virginia Standards of Learning scores increase

The Virginia Department of Education released the Standards of Learning test results from the 2013-14 school year Wednesday. Student test scores in math increased, from a 71 percent pass rate in 2012-13 to 74 percent this year.
