How Students Access the Board of Visitors

Eighteen people sit on the University Board of Visitors. Only seventeen, however, have voting power on the Board and one — fourth-year College student Meg Gould — is there to help ensure the Board understands the breadth of the student experience when making their decisions. “You are essentially serving as a sounding board for a lot of these issues that affect students,” Gould said.

BOV to consider $2.8 billion proposal, 3.7 percent increase

At its meeting this week, the Board of Visitors will consider the proposed budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30, 2015. The nearly $2.8 billion dollar budget includes a $100 million, or 3.7 percent, increase from the current fiscal year.

Harsh words and terse documents circled the State Capitol last week, following Attorney General Mark Herring’s announcement that he will refuse to defend the Marshall-Newman Amendment, also known as the Marriage Amendment, which is being challenged in District Court.

ISC spends 23K to house Pi Chis, uses higher recruitment fee

The Inter-Sorority Council initiated several changes to its recruitment process this year. In addition to eliminating food from house tours, the organization housed Panhellenic Counselors in the Cavalier Inn, costing the organization more than $23,000. The change was in part off-set by increased registration fees for potential new members.

Obama holds higher education summit

University President Teresa Sullivan attended a conference of college and university presidents at the White House today to discuss expanding access to higher education.
