Over the past week and a half, almost all normalcy that was once present on these Grounds has now been abandoned.

To the U.Va. community,

The A.N.G.E.L.S. Society wishes to support and recognize you for the strength with which you have had throughout this challenging situation. Over the past week and a half, almost all normalcy that was once present on these Grounds has now been abandoned. There are no in-person classes or conferences, no sports and no safe way to see friends and loved ones in person. This period of self-isolation, while incredibly necessary, has caused feelings of sadness, loneliness and confusion among our community and around the globe. We recognize the daily struggles that people are facing and hope that you are able to find moments of joy and peace in your lives. We empathize and share in the feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and all of the seemingly endless emotions you may be feeling. Everyone copes differently and we hope that you can find a way to make this time away as meaningful and sustainable as possible for yourselves while continuing to be safe and healthy.

Our hearts go out to the Class of 2020, who have not only seen their final spring semester uprooted, but have also had to endure the pain of not knowing when they will walk across the Lawn for final exercises. We hope that you are able to find encouragement to finish the rest of the semester with as much happiness and fortitude that you can muster. Even though your time spent on Grounds was cut short, know that the impact that you have had on the University is immeasurable, greatly appreciated and not diminished by recent events.

We also wish to extend our gratitude towards those who have worked tirelessly to support our community throughout this pandemic. Thank you to the administration and faculty who have worked together to make these difficult but necessary decisions in order to keep us and those in the surrounding areas safe. Thank you to the professors for completely changing your lesson plans to accommodate online learning, and for being so gracious towards your students who are having difficulty with the adjustment. Thank you to the members of staff who have continued to work in person in order to keep Grounds running and to help students who could not go home. Lastly, thank you to the students, their loved ones, and our alumni for continuing to support one another and spread as much joy as possible. You have all shown how, even in the face of adversity, we are a strong and resilient community, capable of lifting each other up and being kind to one another despite any challenges that we face.

We thank you for all that you continue to do and hope that you and your loved ones stay healthy and vigilant through this trying time.

The A.N.G.E.L.S. Society is a secret society dedicated to reaching out to students and groups who display acts of kindness to their communities.
