No. 5 Virginia field hockey traveled to Durham, N.C. for the ACC Tournament this week, competing against No. 12 Louisville, No. 8 Wake Forest and No. 1 North Carolina. The third-seeded Cavaliers (13-6, 3-3 ACC) edged the Cardinals (12-7, 1-5 ACC) 1-0 in the quarterfinals and came back against the Demon Deacons (15-5, 6-2 ACC) in the semifinals to win 3-2. This earned Virginia a 2021 ACC Championship rematch against the Tar Heels (17-0, 6-0 ACC). The contest ended similarly to last year’s, with North Carolina winning by a slim 3-2 margin.

No. 7 Virginia field hockey traveled to Lynchburg on Tuesday to take on No. 16 Liberty, winning 2-1. The Flames (10-6, 6-0 Big East) scored in the first quarter for an early lead, but the Cavaliers (10-5, 3-3 ACC) fought back fiercely, earning an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners and 13-7 advantage in shots. Ultimately, a deflection goal by senior midfielder Adele Iacobucci in the last five minutes of play gave Virginia the edge to pick up the road win.

No. 6 Virginia field hockey traveled to Durham, N.C. Friday to face No. 25 Duke before taking on Miami on Turf Field in Charlottesville Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (9-3, 3-1 ACC) defeated the Blue Devils (5-8, 0-4 ACC) by a score of 3-2 and won against the RedHawks (7-6, 3-1 MAC) with a final score of 2-1, securing their fifth and sixth straight victories. Virginia is now second in ACC standings, behind only No. 1 ranked North Carolina.
