The University Spanish Theater Group put on a compelling rendition of “Las putas de San Julián” this past weekend, performing four shows at the Helms Theater. Arguably the most intimate performance space on Grounds, the black box theater served as the perfect venue for the play written by Rubén Mosquera, who was in Charlottesville this weekend in attendance of the show and even offered a brief commentary at the end of the matinee on Friday, Feb. 9.

Released Nov. 3, Sam Smith’s new album, titled “The Thrill of It All,” was much anticipated by fans and followers. Smith’s first and most recent album, “In The Lonely Hour,” debuted all the way back on May 26, 2014 in the U.K. and June 17 of the same year in the United States. Following an abundance of nominations and award wins, vocal surgery interrupted his 2015 tour. Since then, the song “Too Good At Goodbyes” was released on Sept. 8 in anticipation of this latest album.

Upon entering the Student Activities Building this past weekend, the unknowing attendee would think that they were about to see a show inspired by the hit sitcom “Saved by the Bell”. A quintessential ‘80s representation — that is precisely what Shakespeare on the Lawn created through its presentation of “Two Gentlemen of Verona.”

Every decade since the 1990s, Wyclef Jean has released an album central to his purpose of global awareness, social activism and equality for racial and ethnic minorities. Friday, Sept. 15, Jean released “Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee.” This album follows the first “Carnival” installment, “Wyclef Jean Presents the Carnival feat. Refugee Allstars” and “Carnival, II: Memoirs of an Immigrant,” which were released in 1997 and 2007, respectively.
