No. 7 Virginia traveled to Louisville, Ky., Friday afternoon for the second competition of their three game road trip. The Cavaliers (7-4, 1-2 ACC) were set to take on the No. 5 Cardinals (9-1, 1-1 ACC), who were undefeated at home at Trager Stadium. Ultimately, the Cavaliers were unable to spoil that Cardinal home winning streak, as a 2-0 Louisville victory earned them a 5-0 home record.

Coming off their Philadelphia road trip sweep, No. 6 Virginia field hockey concluded their string of road games with a dominant 6-1 win at William & Mary, then returned home for a highly contested top-15 matchup against No. 14 Harvard. The Cavaliers (5-1, 0-0 ACC) shut out the Crimson (2-2, 0-0 Ivy) Sunday afternoon to extend their winning streak to four games.

After opening the 2023 season 1-1 at home with an upset win against No. 5 Penn State and a loss to No. 14 Liberty, No. 6 Virginia field hockey traveled to Philadelphia, Pa., for their first road trip of the season. The Cavaliers (3-1, 0-0 ACC) pulled out a 2-1 victory Friday night at No. 11 St. Joseph’s to kick off the trip and then finished strong with a 6-0 sweep at Temple Sunday afternoon.

No. 6 Virginia hosted No. 5 Penn State Friday night at Turf Field in Charlottesville. After a slow start, the Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) found their footing and sent the Nittany Lions (0-1, 0-0 Big Ten) home with a 2-1 loss.

No. 9 Virginia women’s tennis hosted in-state rival Virginia Tech (10-11, 1-10 ACC) Thursday afternoon at Boar’s Head Resort for their last home match of the regular season. The Cavaliers hoped to continue their three-game winning streak, and they certainly delivered with a 5-2 victory over the Hokies (16-4, 9-2 ACC) that extended the length to four.

No. 9 Virginia women’s tennis traveled to Florida over the weekend to compete in a doubleheader against both No. 13 Miami (10-3, 5-1 ACC) and Florida State (10-7, 3-4 ACC). After losing 1-6 to the Hurricanes Friday, the Cavaliers (13-4, 6-2 ACC) picked up a narrow 4-3 victory over the Seminoles Sunday afternoon.

No. 7 Virginia women’s tennis spent the weekend in Seattle, Wash. competing in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The first round saw the Cavaliers (6-2, 0-0 ACC) match up Friday against No. 12 Michigan (6-1, 0-0 Big Ten). After suffering a 2-4 loss, the team competed in two consolation matches where they fell 1-4 to No. 8 Pepperdine (3-2, 0-0 West Coast) Saturday but earned their sole win of the weekend Sunday against No. 17 San Diego (2-5, 0-0 West Coast).

No. 8 Virginia women’s tennis swept its opponents over a weekend-long tournament in Charlottesville at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend. To reach the final, the Cavaliers (4-0) first knocked off Washington State Friday, then defeated South Carolina Saturday to claim the championship. Junior Hibah Shaikh had a particularly strong weekend, winning both of her singles matches in straight sets to aid the team to victory.

No. 5 Virginia field hockey traveled to Durham, N.C. for the ACC Tournament this week, competing against No. 12 Louisville, No. 8 Wake Forest and No. 1 North Carolina. The third-seeded Cavaliers (13-6, 3-3 ACC) edged the Cardinals (12-7, 1-5 ACC) 1-0 in the quarterfinals and came back against the Demon Deacons (15-5, 6-2 ACC) in the semifinals to win 3-2. This earned Virginia a 2021 ACC Championship rematch against the Tar Heels (17-0, 6-0 ACC). The contest ended similarly to last year’s, with North Carolina winning by a slim 3-2 margin.

No. 7 Virginia hosted Kent State on the blue turf Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (11-5, 3-3 ACC) were coming off a tough loss against No. 1 North Carolina and looked to conclude their home slate with a win. The Cavaliers’ explosive offense quickly overpowered the Golden Flashes (7-8, 5-1 MAC) and delivered the fifth shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory on Senior Day in their final regular-season home game.

The Cavaliers (9-4, 3-2 ACC) came into the matchup on a six-game winning streak, and were undefeated at home, while the Demon Deacons (11-3, 3-1 ACC) were riding a five-game winning streak, their most recent loss coming from No. 1 North Carolina. Wake Forest emerged victorious, squeezing out a hard-fought win to claim second place in the ACC standings.

No. 12 Virginia field hockey hosted Temple Friday evening in its home opener at Turf Field before taking on in-state opponent James Madison Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (3-1, 0-0 ACC) defeated both the Owls (3-1, 0-0 AAC) and the Dukes (2-2, 0-0 SBC) by scores of 1-0 and 3-2, respectively.

The Virginia men’s golf team won the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, a tournament hosted here in Charlottesville at the Birdwood Golf Course from Monday to Tuesday. Coming off a seventh place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the Cavaliers shot a 15-under-837 to beat No. 20 Tennessee by a single stroke.

Coming off a fifth place finish in the General Hackler Championship, the Virginia men’s golf team finished ninth at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Ga. The No. 40 Cavaliers carded a 21-over 885.
