Almost 13 percent of University students reported experiencing sexual assault or misconduct by physical force, threats of physical force or incapacitation since enrolling, according to results from the 2015 campus climate survey. Of female undergraduates, 23.8 percent said they had experienced sexual assault or misconduct since entering the University.

A group of four University students recently made waves in the health care community, proposing new ways to revamp how hospitals use medical records. Boasting different talents and interests, the students came together this past summer to start a project that culminated in national recognition this past December.

When most students think of famous Drama Department alumni, Tina Fey comes to mind. But many students don’t realize there are multiple other distinguished alums who got their start within that same University department. With names ranging from Mark Johnson, producer of “Breaking Bad,” to Lear deBessonet, director of public works at the New York Public Theater, the Drama Department has trained professionals who have achieved success both on screen and behind the scenes.

After an extensive training process during the first few months of school, fourth-year Engineering student Kris Peck was ready for the seven-mile run, rope bridge challenge, obstacle course and other tests he would face at Ranger Challenge. An event unique to the Army ROTC program, Ranger Challenge provides a team of 13 students the opportunity to compete against 40 other schools in the mid-Atlantic area in military skills.

Halfway through his performance with fellow members of Carbon Jam, first-year Engineering student Carter Hall had a sudden thought: the sax rift from Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” would go perfectly with the band’s current song. With just a swift glance at the others, Hall’s plan was set in motion. While playing the keyboard, Hall added in the rift, and the rest of the band followed along.

After a tiring Thursday packed with classes, a Queer Students Union meeting and homework, third-year College student Jomar Figueroa and second-year College student Connor Roessler had one last important task: prep. There was makeup to buy, routines to choreograph and shaving to do. The reason? Friday night’s Drag Bingo, a fundraiser regularly hosted by the AIDS Services Group in Charlottesville.
