I am a huge pizza fan. However, sometimes my go-to order from Papa John’s — pepperoni and sausage with extra sauce — seems too routine. I realized that pizza is actually very versatile, and the amount of different pizza recipes is quite extensive. I also think pizza should not exclusively be a dinner or lunch food — the classic pizza dish can be altered to fit any meal of the day.

Winter break is just in sight, and nothing beats a nice warm cup of hot chocolate to get me in the holiday spirit. While a regular cup of cocoa never fails to hit the spot, I decided to try a variety of different combinations to spice up my hot chocolate drinking experience. All of the different recipes can be thrown together with simple ingredients and a microwave. They are fast, easy and taste delicious.

Nothing screams fall like a warm slice of freshly baked apple pie. The cinnamon sugar, flaky crust and gooey apples all collide to create the staple fall dessert. However, baking an apple pie from scratch can be seriously labor intensive and does not necessarily fit in the schedule or baking abilities of your every day University student.

Chocolate chip cookies are an iconic dessert option that never fails to satisfy the craving for something sweet. However, the effort of baking a whole batch is time consuming and often makes so many cookies that many end up going to waste.

The most exciting part about starting second year was definitely the access to my very own kitchen. After living in a dorm with a kitchen leaving much to be desired, the prospect of freshly cooked meals every evening seemed almost too good to be true. However, once classes started and the homework began to pile up, I realized how important quick and easy meals are.

The food truck scene at the University offers students a reprieve from dining hall swipes with Plus Dollar options featuring a diverse array of cuisines. The 2018 fall semester has brought new classes, but also a new Mexican food truck — El Tako Nako.

Usually for Mother’s Day, my family goes out to eat and enjoys whatever dessert the restaurant offers. However, after months of not baking anything all semester, I decided to bake a cake instead. My mom requested something unique, not just the usual chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. However, both sets of grandparents would be in attendance for this Mother’s Day, so I also had their less exotic palates to account for.

As the spring semester draws to a close and finals wind down, my bank account has reached new levels of low. However, making it through these last few weeks surviving solely on dining hall food is simply not an option. Luckily, Zoës Kitchen is a Northline bus ride away with reasonably-priced meals that are both fresh and delicious.

Ending the day with a warm and gooey bowl of chocolate to dip sweets in is incomparable. Fondue is such an underrated dessert, which is understandable considering that the only option seems to be an overpriced outing to The Melting Pot. However, it is probably one of the easiest and most delicious desserts to make at home.

Known as both puppy chow and Muddy Buddies, this addicting snack is my absolute weakness. The crunch of the Chex cereal and all the peanut-buttery chocolate goodness is absolute heaven. However, most recipes for this amazing treat result in a massive amount. While I’m not complaining, it is just too dangerous to have nine cups waiting around in my dorm room for me to devour.

Uber Eats now makes it easier and more convenient to have food from local restaurants delivered right to your front door. Its recent expansion includes the addition of the Charlottesville area.

Nothing quite hits the spot like a cheesy slice of brick oven pizza, and Brixx Wood Fired Pizza offers an ample selection of delicious pizza to curb any Italian craving.

If you’re in the mood for a classic all-American meal, Zinburger has got you covered. Nothing screams comfort food like a nice, juicy burger with a side of fries and a shake for dessert. Located in the Barracks Road Shopping Center on Emmet Street, it is just a quick bus ride from Central Grounds.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of eating a deliciously-made salad. The fresh crunch of veggies and flavorful dressing always leave me feeling healthy and refreshed. Chopt and Roots both offer University students a delightful selection of fresh salads, but when the craving hits, which one is the best option?

The first few weeks of first year are full of countless opportunities. It can be a little overwhelming, but the one experience that will always stick out to me is the Rotunda Dome Room Dinner each first-year dorm has the opportunity to attend.
