In Andrew Rossi's 2011 documentary, "Page One: Inside the New York Times," Times media reporter David Carr tells an audience of journalists at a publishing conference in Minneapolis: "You have lived through the worst cyclical secular recession that the publishing business has ever seen in modern times. As lawyers prepare to determine the fate of George Huguely, the former men's lacrosse player charged with murdering women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, coach Dom Starsia and the men's team are moving forward with optimism that the program will not be defined by a single investigation. But some worry that the team's effort to move forward from the incident may be hindered by a change in the perception of the program.

Duke's sophomore forward not only made the bucket, but also earned a trip to the free throw line after Virginia's junior center was called for his fourth personal foul, landing him on the bench and igniting the previously subdued crowd at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Cavaliers (2-0) began the season on the road with an 82-66 victory against Hofstra. Virginia only led by two points at halftime but outscored Hofstra 50-36 during the second half to secure the win. Four different Cavaliers finished in double figures, led by junior guard Whitny Edwards with 16 points. Sophomore center Simone Egwu and freshman guard Kelsey Wolfe each posted double-doubles, while freshman forward Jazmin Pitts grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

Senior Michael Shabaz completed an eight-match run to the finals of the Virginia National Bank Tennis Championships Sunday with a 6-2, 6-3 loss against No. 149 Robert Kendrick. With his performance, Shabaz will climb more than 1,200 spots in the world rankings to about No. 525.

Each member of the Virginia men's tennis team who participated in the ITA National Indoor Individual Championships yesterday in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. lost his opening round match. Freshman Alex Domijan, the top seed in the 32-player singles draw, was upset in the first round by sophomore Rhyne Williams of Tennessee, 7-6, 7-6. Senior Sanam Singh fell by the same score as the No. 18 seed to Denver sophomore Enej Bonin. Junior Drew Courtney held a one-set lead against Pepperdine sophomore Sebastian Fanselow but dropped the next two to lose the match.

Three of the Virginia women's rowing team's five Varsity Eight crews finished in the top five at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. Sunday.\nPrinceton's top boat edged Virginia for the second consecutive meet, finishing the race with a time of 14:22.518 - more than nine seconds ahead of Virginia's 'A' boat.

The Virginia women's tennis duo of sophomore Maria Fuccillo and freshman Rashmi Teltumbde took the doubles title at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship yesterday in Norfolk, Va., clinching a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships. The tournament marked the first time Fuccillo and Teltumbde played together as a duo. Teltumbde needed to win two qualifying matches even to compete in the main draw.

The Virginia men's tennis team won four titles at the UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational this past weekend. The tournament consisted of four top-A singles flights, featuring 28 ranked players and 11 who participated in the 2010 NCAA singles championships. Players from ACC schools such as North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, N.C. State and Maryland, as well as powerhouse tennis programs such as Tennessee, competed in the tourney.
