Life as a Muslim growing up in a post-9/11 society has been far from easy. Our religion has been co-opted by both radical terror groups and politicians alike, all of whom contribute to rhetoric that claims Islam is intrinsically opposed to Western values. Not only are we held responsible for the radical actions of a few, but we also bear the brunt of the hatred that lies in the aftermath.

Two courageous souls from the Cavalier Daily’s Arts & Entertainment section braved the Paramount for a night of horror on Apr. 3 for a pre-screening of “Unfriended,” a pioneer film of the Cyber Horror genre put on by the Virginia Horror Society and Universal Pictures at the University.

The mtvU Woodie Awards show comes to Austin, Texas late March. Established in 2004, the Woodie Awards center around finding original musical indie voices within the past 10 years. Executive Producer Ryan Kroft said that the show was about musical discovery and the connections between artists and young fans.

At 9 p.m. Friday, the lights in Ern Commons dimmed and the loud chatter became a hush as the culminating event of Black Culture Week was set to begin. The poetry slam, “A Tribute To Our Stars,” showcased the talent and passion poets from B.E.A.T.S., or the Black Expression Awareness and Thought Society, and Nauhtal, an award winning slam team from Virginia Commonwealth University.
