Rina Sawayama’s brand of pop music has always been composed of many different inspirations. With 2020’s “Sawayama,” the singer worked to incorporate nu-metal and a heavy Y2K influence into her music, while also establishing key themes of queer acceptance and Asian identity as core principles of her work. “Hold the Girl” builds upon these influences and themes while also introducing new ones.

For her third studio album, titled “Sometimes, Forever,” Sophie Allison — who uses the stage name “Soccer Mommy” — continues to expand on her palette of guitar-driven indie rock by introducing new themes while still relying on her trademark introspective songwriting. Building upon the success of 2020’s “color theory,” Allison has created a project that introduces new elements into her repertoire without compromising the relatability that brought her to the forefront of indie rock. “Sometimes, Forever” contains something for everyone, with songs that portray everything from the supernatural to depression.

Beginning on April 17 and running until the end of the semester, five students displayed collections of photographs as a part of a student workshop for the Frederic Brenner Residency at the University. These photos ranged in style from portraits to landscapes, but all gave an in-depth glimpse into each student’s thought process and life. Students were able to interact with the art and get a glimpse into what student artwork at the University is like because it is displayed publicly in Nau Commons.
