The National Book Foundation presented Rita Dove, the Henry Hoyns Professor of Creative Writing at the University, the 2023 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in New York Tuesday. She is the fourth poet to be honored with this award and the first African American poet. Dove’s decades-long legacy in writing heartfelt and genuine literature inspired from her own life experiences has earned her this notable achievement.

The Asian American Student Center, the newest Multicultural Student Services center in the basement of Newcomb Hall had its grand opening Tuesday afternoon with speeches from Asian American student leaders and MSS faculty members. The opening of the center comes after a long push from students for more institutional support for Asian American students and officially opened for student use Wednesday.

With the development of advanced technology and techniques in the past 20 years, psychologists have delved deeper into the broad phenomenon known as interpersonal synchrony. Interpersonal synchrony between individuals, as explained by University psychology professors, is a common behavior present in relationships that helps them cultivate bonds and resolve conflicts. Their research can help students better understand the dynamics within their own relationships and how to navigate them.

Each year, Clostridium difficile infects approximately half a million people in the U.S., most of whom are hospitalized patients. C. difficile is a toxin-producing bacterium able to cause symptoms such as severe diarrhea and colitis. Because of growing antibiotic resistance of C. difficile, Biomedical Engineering Prof. Jason Papin is using computer models to study and better understand the infection.
