Virginia softball was on the road again this weekend, as the Cavaliers (6-4, 0-0 ACC) traveled south for the Easton Bama Bash hosted by Alabama. Although Virginia had strong showings against Southern Indiana (1-4, 0-0 OVC) and St. Thomas (1-9, 0-0 Summit League), the Cavaliers could not get past the No. 11 Crimson Tide (10-0, 0-0 SEC) in either of their two matchups.

Virginia softball kicked off its 2024 season with five games across three days at the South Carolina Tournament. The Cavaliers (3-2, 0-0 ACC) started strongly with two wins over North Carolina Greensboro (1-4, 0-0 SoCon) and a victory against Jacksonville State (1-4, 0-0 OVC), but lost their last two contests to South Carolina (5-0, 0-0 SEC).

Virginia men’s soccer hosted FIU at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville for a matchup in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday. The No. 11 Cavaliers (11-3-4, 5-2-1 ACC) were able to earn a 2-1 win in overtime despite a strong opponent and very tense match, as the Panthers (10-5-4, 5-1-2 ACC) fought persistently against Virginia in an aggressive match.

In its final game of the 2023 regular season, Virginia men’s soccer squared off against North Carolina Friday night at Klöckner Stadium. In a low-scoring affair, the No. 14 Cavaliers (10-3-3, 5-2-1 ACC) bested the No. 10 Tar Heels (7-3-5, 2-3-3 ACC) 1-0 behind a strong defensive performance.

Virginia women’s squash has the chance to be the strongest it has ever been following a successful season last year as the Cavaliers return the bulk of a rotation that finished ranked No. 4 in the country. But in order to break into the stronghold the top three teams have on the sport, each returning player — as well as potentially a newcomer — will need to be at their best to persevere over a long season.

Virginia men’s soccer battled Virginia Tech in the 45th Commonwealth Clash in program history Friday night. The No. 18 Cavaliers (8-3-3, 3-2-1 ACC) had their way with the Hokies (4-7-4, 2-5-1 ACC), coasting to a 3-0 win at Thompson Field in Blacksburg behind a pair of goals from freshman forward Stephen Annor Gyamfi.

Virginia men’s soccer played its third consecutive match at Klöckner Stadium Tuesday, looking to finish out a nearly perfect homestand against Hofstra. Despite outshooting the No. 16 Pride (8-1-3, 2-0-2 CAA) 12-7, the Cavaliers (6-3-2, 2-2 ACC) had to battle back in the second half just to earn themselves a 1-1 draw.

Virginia men’s soccer went toe-to-toe with Eastern Tennessee State for the first time in program history Tuesday, playing a match in Klöckner Stadium for the first time in 10 days. The Cavaliers (5-3-1, 1-2 ACC) looked like the better side for much of the game, eking out a 1-0 win over the Buccaneers (3-5-1, 0-0 SoCon) and grabbing their first clean sheet since Aug. 31.

Virginia men’s soccer traveled to South Bend, Ind. Friday night for a battle against ACC foe Notre Dame. The Cavaliers (4-3-1, 1-2 ACC) trailed from the fourth minute until the final whistle against the No. 15 Fighting Irish (5-1-3, 2-0-1 ACC), who cruised to a 3-1 victory to give Virginia a losing conference record in 2023.

Virginia men’s soccer entered Tuesday’s match against James Madison coming off of a 2-0 loss to Duke, so the Cavaliers (3-2-1, 0-1 ACC)) were hoping to gain some momentum in an in-state battle against the No. 9 Dukes (4-0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt). Although Virginia was able to score an early goal and defend well against James Madison, the Dukes fought hard and ended the game with a tie due to a last-minute goal from senior midfielder Rodrigo Robles.

Virginia men’s soccer played host to Maryland Monday at Klöckner Stadium, and with a cohesive offense and crucial saves from senior goalkeeper Holden Brown, the Cavaliers (3-1, 0-0 ACC) were able to take down the Terrapins (1-2-1, 0-0 Big 10) 2-1 for the first time since 2019.

Virginia men’s soccer entered Sunday’s match against Loyola Marymount coming off a Thursday victory against Iona, but the No. 15 Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) could not make it two in a row at Klöckner Stadium against a feisty Lions (1-0-1, 0-0 WCC) team. Loyola Marymount made it hard on Virginia on both sides of the pitch, but especially on the Cavaliers’ defensive end, where the Lions pushed a trio of goals past the home side on their way to a 3-1 victory in the first-ever matchup between the two teams.

No. 1 Virginia’s Women’s swimming and diving earned their third consecutive NCAA Championship title at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. Saturday. After a season full of victories and record-breaking swims, as well as winning the ACC Championship, the Virginia women lived up to expectations coming into the meet as heavy favorites.

You may have seen it on the news, around the country or even right here at the University — pickleball is America’s fastest-growing sport. Its popularity has been undeniable even in Charlottesville. The Pickleball Club at U.Va. officially started in 2021 and has grown tremendously since then, boasting 650 members and a 24-person tournament team.

Virginia hosted the third annual Cavalier Invite this weekend at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville. The No. 1 ranked women's team and the No. 14 men’s team went up against seven teams — George Washington, James Madison, Johns Hopkins, North Carolina, North Carolina Wilmington, Richmond, and William & Mary.

Three members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed in the ITA Men’s All-American Championships from Wednesday through Sunday in Tulsa, Okla. Meanwhile, the women’s team traveled to Cary, N.C. to compete in the ITA Women’s All-American Championships, which was held from Oct. 1 through Sunday.
