A panel on due process, Title IX and campus sexual misconduct was held at the Caplin Pavilion at the University Law School Wednesday evening. After concerns about poor representation on the panel, Student Council decided yesterday to no longer sponsor the event.

The University released a revised interim Policy on Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence Monday afternoon. Four political activists arrested on the steps of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity in November pled guilty to trespassing charges last week in Charlottesville General District Court. All four participants are from Louisa County, Virginia.

Honor Committee elections and referenda voting open online Friday. In addition to electing representatives, students will have the opportunity to vote on the referenda to change the current Honor single-sanction system. The referenda are comprised of three proposals — the first two are binding constitutional amendments and the third is non-binding.

Many sorority national headquarters are putting strict measures in place to prevent member participation in this year’s Boys’ Bid Night activities. Several chapters have been required to schedule mandatory meetings or social events in lieu of Bid Night activities, in addition to a request from the National Panhellenic Conference last week requesting all sororities cancel organized Bid Night activities.

In an effort to improve current safety procedures, the University is requiring fraternities to sign the new Fraternal Organization Agreement addendum by Jan. 16 as part of an agreement lifting a suspension on Greek social activities first enacted in November. The addendum comes out of intense scrutiny of the University Greek system following a Nov. 19 Rolling Stone article, later retracted, alleging a gang rape at the University’s chapter of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

The 74th district will vote to fill the seat of Del. Joseph Morrissey, D-Charles City County, who resigned from the Virginia House of Delegates in December, in a special election Tuesday. Low-income Virginia residents suffering from HIV/AIDS no longer have to wait for their medication.
Additional funding from the General Assembly helped the state’s AIDS drug assistance program (ADAP) reduce its waiting list — which peaked at 1,112 people last December — to zero at the end of August. The program helps low-income Virginia residents suffering from AIDS obtain medication.
