David Kirby is very clearly an expert in his field of poetry. While his reading did not differ in structure to other poetry readings, the experience of David Kirby was distinct and informative.

Taylor Bennett’s newest release “Restoration of an American Idol” is perhaps the rising artist’s strongest project to date. The album has some of the best feature verses and cohesion ever heard on a Bennett project and is superior to many other big-name artist projects. The album features many of these artists as guests, among them Kyle, Little Yachty and even Bennett’s brother, Chance the Rapper.

“I Decided.,” the most recent release from Big Sean, is another strong project for the Detroit artist and features the likes of Eminem, Jerimih and Migos. The album is a very cohesive piece of work. The production of each track is fantastic, offering diverse sounds from R&B to trap and seamless transitions to the following song. There is never a moment on “I Decided.” which feels unnecessary. While the production quality is exceptional, the best aspects of the album are the lyrics and their execution.

Artists Chance the Rapper and Jeremih surprised the world with a collaborative Christmas mixtape Dec. 22. “Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama” consists of nine tracks that fuse classic R&B Christmas songs with a modern hip hop twist. Despite being considered a mixtape, in typical Chance fashion, the mixtape’s level of quality is equivalent to any other album released this year. “Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama” has appearances from artists such as Noname, Lud Foe and King Louie, as well as a bit of dialogue from comedian Hannibal Buress.

“The Black Monologues” is a show like no other. The actors and actresses’ performances were impeccable, blurring the line between reality and fiction with the depictions of stories told throughout the play. Much like last year, “The Black Monologues” of this fall gives a taste of what it is like to be black, not only at the University but in America as a whole. It depicts both the beautiful and the ugly sides of the culture in relatable, funny and moving ways.

2K Games’ latest entry into the Mafia franchise has problems on the Xbox One — a lot of problems. The game is plagued with graphical bugs, mission glitches and crashes throughout. The game’s appearance looks good, but it’s certainly not the best-looking game on the market, and it’s definitely not worth all the technical issues that come with high quality graphics.

Disney Pixar’s newest film, "Finding Dory,” hit theaters June 17. The eagerly awaited sequel to "Finding Nemo" will entertain fans; however, the film has its shortcomings and should certainly be the last in the series.

Telltale Game’s “Minecraft: Story Mode” released its fifth and final episode on March 29. Unlike most of Telltale’s other games, the fifth episode included a different story than the previous four. For those unfamiliar with Telltale’s video games, they focus mainly on plot instead of complex gameplay. They make use of a point-and-click gameplay style which is simple, yet effective.

“This Unruly Mess I’ve Made,” the sophomore album from rap team Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, is just as its title states — an unruly mess. The songs on the album are not bad, but the track arrangement makes the album feel confusing and reduces the effectiveness of its more serious tracks.

“Happy Camper,” the second album by rapper Hoodie Allen, was released Jan. 22 for free via Allen’s website. The rapper’s sophomore effort offers pleasantly unique vocals plus features from SUPERDUPERKYLE, Blackbear, Meghan Tonjes and Ricky Smith.

“White Privilege II,” performed by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and featuring Jamila Woods, is difficult to adequately describe or even review as a piece of music. Similar to the artists’ previous work “Same Love,” the track addresses social issues in a musical format — however, unlike “Same Love,” “White Privilege II” is more of a musical than a typical song.

“The Black Monologues” was performed exactly as the name suggests: as a series of monologues about black life, both during students’ time at the University and in the context of changes that occur after admission to the University and arrival on Grounds.

Chance the Rapper debuted his newest single “Angels,” a track from his upcoming unnamed third mixtape, on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Oct. 26. While the single was not the much-anticipated song featuring Colbert that fans expected, it was still a very pleasant surprise.

One of the main issues with the first episode of “Supergirl” stems from Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) losing to the antagonist of the episode, Vartox (Owain Yeoman), to winning. It doesn’t make much sense. In the first fight Supergirl has with Vartox she loses, but then in the second fight, she defeats Vartox even though nothing else in story has changed.

The Game, a West Coast-based rapper and one of Dr. Dre’s proteges, released his much awaited album “The Documentary 2” earlier this month and “The Documentary 2.5” the next week. The two albums together boast nearly 40 songs and offer storytelling that surpasses his mentor’s “Compton.”

The newest iteration of EA’s “NBA 2K” boasts its “Spike Lee Joint” as an additional reason to buy the game. While the main reason people will buy “2K16” is for the gameplay, the integration of Spike Lee’s story actually makes the gameplay experience worse and this must be acknowledged.

The premiere of the new television show, “The Muppets,” sets a clear tone for the rest of the series: these are not the same Muppets from your childhood.

Businesses, especially those in the video game industry, have good years and bad years but the products that steadily bring in revenue grant businesses buffers during the lean years. Public companies are especially susceptible to intellectual property stagnation due to the pressure they receive from shareholders to push profitable fiscal years. However, even the companies which have a large safety net don’t often take the risk of creating new IPs even with the potential of a large reward. This is mostly due to sales numbers in the past console generation (excluding the Nintendo Wii due to demographic differences of that console). In the previous console generation’s 25 best selling games, 23 of them were entries in an already established franchise. The two new IPs that made the list were “Gears of War” and “Minecraft.” However, “Gears of War,” even while being marketed as a major reason to buy an Xbox 360, still sold 300,000 less copies than “Halo: Combat Evolved” did on the original Xbox.
