Virginia’s final non-conference game of the season against George Washington was canceled Dec. 6 following a handful of injuries that left the Cavaliers (0-5, 0-2 ACC) with only six available players. Among those still unavailable are graduate student forward Tihana Stojsavljevic, who suffered a season-ending leg injury in the opener against UCF, and sophomore forward Meg Jefferson, the team’s leading scorer. Sophomore guard Dylan Horton also opted out of the season. Without a deep roster, Virginia took on Clemson and Florida State in its first ACC contests over the weekend, losing to both opponents and falling behind in the ACC standings.

After losing to Central Florida on the road Wednesday, Virginia women’s basketball travelled back to Charlottesville to take on East Carolina. The Cavaliers (0-2, 0-0 ACC) fell behind early and despite fighting back in the second half, lost after East Carolina graduate student guard Justice Gee made a game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds left.

The women’s basketball team held a virtual media day Nov. 18 with the season opener against Central Florida Wednesday. The event featured Coach Tina Thompson and sophomore guards Amandine Toi and Carole Miller, who discussed their expectations going into the season and the experiences adapting to a preseason dominated by COVID-19. Following last week’s Wolfpack Invite, the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams returned to Panorama Farms to compete at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in their third meet of the season. The Cavaliers faced off against Duke and Virginia Tech, with the men’s team placing first once again — its third first-place win of the season — and the women’s team securing second place.

Senior Rohann Asfaw was named the NCAA Division I Men’s Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tuesday. The award follows the Virginia men’s cross-country team’s win at the Virginia Invite Friday.

Virginia men’s and women’s cross country headed to Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. to compete in the Virginia Invite Friday — which was the teams’ first meet of the 2020 season. Both teams had a strong showing, with the men’s team claiming first place with the fastest time of the competition and the women’s team finishing in second place.

After training for months, several Virginia players have aspirations of being selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, which will begin virtually Thursday and conclude Saturday. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia’s Pro Day was canceled, meaning that many players were unable to showcase their talents to NFL scouts in person. Coming off a strong ACC win over Clemson, No. 13 Virginia faced two ACC teams ranked in the top three this weekend. First, the Cavaliers (9-4, 3-2 ACC) traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. After competing in Chicago for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, No. 13 Virginia was back in action in Charlottesville Saturday to take on No. 12 Michigan at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
