Virginia women’s tennis began dual play on Saturday at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbus, Ohio, splitting its two matches against Tennessee and No. 13 Ohio State. The Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) defeated the Lady Volunteers (4-1, 0-0 SEC) 4-1 before falling to the Buckeyes (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) by a score of 4-2 in the final.

No. 10 women’s tennis faced two top-10 ACC opponents at the North Carolina Invitational this weekend, falling to both No. 1 North Carolina and No. 8 NC State. In their first match up, the Cavaliers faced the Tar Heels, and despite holding their own in the doubles matches, they were ultimately defeated by strong singles play by North Carolina.

Former Virginia guard Jocelyn Willoughby left Virginia as one of the most highly decorated women’s basketball players in recent program history. After averaging 19.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game her senior season and earning numerous honors for both athletic and academic excellence — including winning the 2019-20 Kay Yow Award and being named to the All-ACC first team — Willoughby was selected 10th overall in the WNBA draft. In her first season in the WNBA, she has already begun making a name for herself through actions both on and off the court.
