The University announced May 3 that Ian Solomon is the next dean of the Frank Batten School of Public Policy and Leadership active Sept. 1. Allan Stam — the current Batten dean since July 2014 — will leave June 30. Craig Volden, associate dean for academic affairs — will serve as interim dean in the meantime.

The non-profit organization Together We Remember held a panel of speakers comprised of Susan Bro, Heather Heyer’s mother, Reverend Patricia Jones Turner from the White Feather Historical Project — a program built around workshops that discuss the history of people of color — Rabbi Rachel Schmelkin from the Congregation Beth Israel in Charlottesville and David Estrin, the founder and CEO of TWR. The diverse group engaged in a dialogue with about 15 attendees on preventing identity-based violence in Charlottesville Thursday in McLeod Hall.

The Take Back the Night Vigil was held in the Amphitheater Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. to help raise awareness for and support survivors of sexual assault and was attended by approximately 100 people. The event included stories from survivors, musical performances by Wendy Repass, a local Charlottesville musician, and Michael Schulte, a second-year College student.

Fourth-year University students received an email Tuesday from Trinity Irish Pub — a popular off-Grounds bar and restaurant where many students view Virginia sports games — announcing that viewership of the men’s basketball Final Four game against Auburn on Saturday evening will be limited to viewers who are 21 and older and pay in advance for a food and drink package.

Dr. B. Cameron Webb, a renowned doctor and lawyer, and School of Nursing Dean Dorrie Fontaine were announced Wednesday as the speakers for the University’s 190th Final Exercises.

The Muslim Students Association hosted Taher Herzallah, the associate director of outreach and community organizing for American Muslims for Palestine, to lead a workshop with around 15 students on educating people about the history and rights of Palestine March 21 in Gibson 211. AMP is a “grassroots-based organization dedicated to educating the American public about Palestine” and taking political action to change American foreign policy.
