As the ball dropped and brought in the new decade, the year of 2020, our nation suffered a great loss. The saying goes, “out with the old and in with the new,” which generally brings about positive change and gives us a chance to reflect on our lives and adjust our habits.

The time-honored tradition of wedding dress shopping can be so pure and so wonderful. It is a time when family and friends gather together to help the bride-to-be select the gown that she will wear before the eyes of God as she vows eternal love to her spouse. The bride may browse hundreds of dresses before choosing the one that is just right for her, and all the while, she is given gracious and well-intentioned advice from family, friends and, of course, the sales associate. At the age of 19, I had never wondered what the bride-to-be must feel like in those moments, but thankfully, I got a glimpse into a similar world as I was apartment hunting this year.

Since a young age, I’ve been told to dream big because “anything is possible.” If we try hard enough and put our best foot forward, our biggest and brightest dreams can come true! Right? This idea has been ingrained in my mind and the minds of many others, I’m sure. We hear it from our parents, teachers, mentors, friends’ parents, preachers, celebrities, etc. that the only limit is our imagination in what we can dream and thus achieve. In a world rife with discord, most everyone seems to agree on this one big idea. The repetition of this simple phrase so frequently by so many people made it seem like fact. And for about 18 years it almost seemed realistic to me too, until I came to the University.

With the recent bone-chilling weather, I began to wonder if we were the first people to experience cold weather, and if we were not, then how long have we as a species dealt with this madness? While staying inside and sipping hot tea, I conducted a great amount of research which indicates that winter’s longstanding history may soon come to an end. I hope you will read this and enjoy my findings while wearing fuzzy socks.

The University has joined a growing number of colleges and universities across the nation to adopt an annual “Bring Your Frat Brother to Class Day.” Studies have shown that bringing a pet into learning or working environments can reduce stress, increase social interactions and improve performance — but on most college campuses, frat brothers are in greater supply than dogs, so this trend has spread faster than a dog can catch its tail.
