As this summer marks the first in-person orientation sessions to be held in three years, incoming first-year students and Orientation leaders shared a renewed sense of appreciation for the value in introducing students to Grounds, resources and their peers.
Seven months ago, a grease fire caused Coupe DeVille’s — a popular bar and restaurant located on Elliewood Avenue on the Corner — to close down for renovations. Though the establishment owner initially hoped to reopen this spring, the opening date is now predicted to be late summer.
The University Police Department extended a previous four-year “no trespass” order for Jason Kessler, “Unite the Right” rally organizer and Class of 2009 alumnus, Wednesday. “No trespass” bans are issued to individuals who break Virginia criminal code, violate University regulations or otherwise place the health and safety of University community members at risk.
Over 230 cyclists, cycling enthusiasts and members of the Charlottesville community gathered Saturday for the Charlottesville Criterium and Bike Fest, also publicized as CVLEBIKEFEST. Take Back the Night, a student-run organization dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence and domestic abuse, hosted Take Back the Bar and a vigil for survivors this weekend. The two events are part of seven in-person events Take Back the Night is hosting throughout April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
