I am disheartened and disgusted that Ms. Dragas remains on the Board of Visitors. She has betrayed the trust of thousands and soiled the University’s reputation worse than anyone in recent memory, and perhaps, in the University’s history. CEOs, elected officials, even public employees have been dismissed for lesser infractions. Two people even resigned for being associated with her nefarious machinations and ignoble reputation. The specious words in a July 16 email, “A Joint Statement from the Rector and President,” evince an egregious willingness to voluntarily ignore Dragas’ treasonous actions. Until she resigns, confidence will never fully be restored in the University.

"GAY? FINE by Me" is not fine. The term "gay" is neither inclusive nor representative of the diverse sexual orientations and gender identities that make up what we commonly call the "queer community" at the University. Even more problematic, the phrase "fine by me" is condescending and implies that queer people asked straight society a question: "Is it O.K. to be gay?" We should never ask this question simply because it's not straight people's place to judge. Our community should not stoop to begging for approval from heterosexuals, rather we should demand equal treatment for ourselves and our partners. As a former member of the LGBT Resource Center's Operating Board who voted against bringing the campaign last year, I am disappointed that rather than create a more inclusive and accurate t-shirt slogan this year, my peers opted to pursue this exclusionary and patronizing campaign again.

LAST WEEK while conducing endorsement interviews for Queer & Allied Activism, I was shocked when a candidate for the Honor Committee asked me if I supported Student Council's resolution supporting domestic partner benefits, implying that it might have been an effort to make members of Council look good before elections this spring. QuAA researched, wrote and found a sponsor for the resolution, so of course we support it!

HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, has long been considered a problem affecting urban areas. But now the deadly virus is popping up increasingly on Southern college campuses.

There's an urban myth that anal sex can result in pregnancy. But according to Chris Peterson, a doctor at the University's Student Health Center, it is just that -- a myth.
