The University’s status as one of the premier public schools in the country has historically attracted a distinguished faculty consisting of some of the best and brightest minds in academic fields across both undergraduate and graduate studies. These individuals greatly contribute to the sustained academic excellence for which the University has long been renowned. Fox News has been a mainstay of almost every presidential debate since the turn of the century and given their viewership and political presence — this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The University is unique in that it’s one of only a handful of top-tier public universities that maintains guaranteed transfer agreements with community colleges in Virginia. The University’s general education curriculum is both long and diverse. Amongst the plethora of classes University students must complete, one that deserves particular scrutiny is the foreign language requirement. The foreign language requirement asks students to complete four semesters of a language of their choosing, prior to their seventh semester. As simple as it sounds, the requirement consists of typically four or five classes a week, with lengthy homework due nearly every day, in order to maximize exposure to the language.
