I was lost, and everyone was wearing cobalt blue and lemon or aspen yellows in a beige town square during golden hour. This, of course, was a dream — but the colors were no strangers to my life, as I have been thinking about blues this spring season. Blues, yellows, lime greens and bright colors have painted the runways of fashion week and even Pantone has called it — vibrant is the new pastel.

Wrapping up the Virginia Festival of the Book on its fourth night, “Future Tense: Writers You’ll be Reading for the Next 25 Years” hosted three writers at The Paramount Theater. From fiction to memoir to poetry, the writers on the stage brought different genres, voices and perspectives to the discussion. Mitchell S. Jackson, a published novelist whose memoir “Survival Math: Notes on an All-American Family” was published March 5 this year, sat closest to the panel moderator, Carlos Lozada, a nonfiction book critic for The Washington Post.

The theme was love and the colors were warm and the people were dancing. In a dark room with a stage, a colorful projection of shades of baby blues, golden yellows and fuzzy pinks stood behind the DJs. On the dance floor, people moved with a freedom nostalgic of a 1970s disco club party. There was energy, and there was love.

Around 50 community members convened at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center Monday night for a Charlottesville Dialogue on Race strategy meeting. The meeting followed a series of dialogues held throughout the fall and which concluded with a community vote on action ideas Dec. 11.

This past Saturday, the Asian Student Union and Organization of Young Filipino Americans partnered to host the East Coast Asian American Student Union. ECAASU is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that reaches out to Asian American and Pacific Islander student groups across the country. Their mission is to “inspire, educate, and empower those interested in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) issues.”
