It’s no secret that Bodo’s Bagels, a long-time Charlottesville staple, boasts an amazing, affordable menu, including everything from breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches to omelets to a rotation of daily soups. But there’s always been something missing. Bodo’s has never offered a dessert option — until now. Coming to the Corner and Emmet Street locations in the near future, the Bodo’s located on Preston Avenue has housed the launching of the Bodo’s “cake.”

Charlottesville has never been a stranger to the libation scene. Thomas Jefferson set the standard with his love for elaborate parties and wine, and not much has changed in the past 200 years. With an amazing bar selection, local brewery Starr Hill and numerous wineries within a stone’s throw of Grounds, it is easy to take for granted the numerous alcohol options at our disposal.

We all have that special bite that stands out in our memory. Whether you were four or 23, some meals are so good you can almost still taste them. This happened for me when I was six years old, sparking a lifelong obsession with food in the process.

Restaurants on The Corner come and go like dust in the wind. The Backyard, Rita’s Ice Cream, Big Dawgz and, most recently, Baja Bean have fallen to the wayside just in the past several years. If you want to open a restaurant on the Corner, you better be ready to bring the heat.

Because I was in Texas last fall, this is my first football season in more than a year in good ol’ Virginia. In my time away from the University, I learned a few things about football — and more importantly, about their tailgates.

Tucked away on Allied Street off McIntire Road, a Charlottesville treasure hides behind C’ville Coffee. There, Carpe Donut helps you seize the day with apple cider-infused doughnuts made with only the highest quality ingredients.

Nationally recognized Crozet Pizza has made a historic move — literally and figuratively speaking. Now with a second location on the Corner that opened less than a month ago, Crozet Pizza has combined forces with Buddhist Biker Bar and has taken over the much-coveted Elliewood Ave. location of The Backyard, proving to be an outstanding addition to the Corner.

The legendary Crozet Pizza has found a new home at the Buddhist Biker Bar on Elliewood Avenue, taking the place of outdoor restaurant and bar The Backyard. The brainchild of Bob and Karen Crum — who moved to Crozet, Va., about 20 minutes west of Charlottesville, in the 1970s — Crozet Pizza aims to expand its signature pies to the college-age market.

There is simply no better way to spend a gorgeous Charlottesville morning than exploring our amazing brunch scene. For those who want to venture away from the usual suspects — The Virginian, The Pigeon Hole, etc. — Brookville brings an unmatched culinary experience each Sunday morning that should not be missed.

Their concept is simple — provide the best ingredients from local farms around Charlottesville and put them in a high voltage burger that packs a punch. This means Virginia cheeses and local produce when possible, not to mention free range chicken and beef. If you are going to eat meat, this is the way to do it.

A couple of weeks ago, I was driving back from the Downtown Mall with my girlfriend, just finished with “Silver Linings Playbook.” We were looking for a sweet treat to cap the night off right. We headed down Main Street, thinking we’d capitulate to the usual Sweet Frog or Arch’s sugar fix, but instead noticed a building tucked away by the bridge at the train station. There, at 843 West Main Street, stood Sweethaus, a small-batch cupcake and candy shop.

My first experience with a bowl of the Vietnamese master class soup pho — pronounced “fuh” — was at my first serious girlfriend’s house. Her family is Vietnamese, and I will never forget her mother chopping the bones for her beef stock, throwing in all sorts of exotic spices I couldn’t pronounce and then slaving over her stock for the next 12 hours. She was constantly skimming the top for impurities and adding spices. When I finally took that first bite of succulent ox tail, rice noodles and broth, I was immediately hooked on this soup.
