University President Jim Ryan and J.J. Davis, chief operating officer and chair of the University’s housing advisory group, met with members of the community in an hour-long Zoom session Thursday to kick off the community engagement effort for the University’s affordable housing initiative, which will support the development of over 1,000 low-cost units in the local community.

As more and more students receive vaccines through U.Va. Health, the Blue Ridge Health District and other sources, vaccinated students report that they are looking forward to seeing elderly relatives and family members along with having a reduced fear of contracting or spreading the virus.

The University is hosting an event to kick off the community engagement effort for its affordable housing initiative, which aims to support the development of over 1,000 housing units in the local community. The event will take place virtually Thursday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. and will provide an overview of the initiative’s past and future work. University President Jim Ryan and Chief Operating Officer J.J. Davis will answer questions posed by the Charlottesville community.

The Inter-Fraternity Council announced Thursday that it will resume in-person activities in accordance with the University’s COVID-19 guidelines, which limit outdoor gatherings to 25 people and indoor gatherings to six people. The statement follows the Inter-Sorority Council’s decision on March 12 to lift its ban on in-person gatherings.

The Center for Politics held the first of three events to promote the release of its new book, “A Return to Normalcy?: The 2020 Election That (Almost) Broke America” Thursday evening. Panelists weighed-in on the fate of President Joe Biden’s administration in the Post-Donald Trump era, the lasting effects of the Capitol insurrection and the role of the media in politics.

Third-year College students Abel Liu and Gavin Oxley discussed their platforms and fielded questions from The Cavalier Daily and community members at the fifth annual Student Council presidential candidate forum Monday night. The forum was co-hosted by The Cavalier Daily, University Board of Elections and the U.Va. Democracy Initiative’s Student Advisory Council.
