As the beginning of another school year draws closer, many students face an unprecedented dilemma. With the ongoing pandemic, most families are taking time to reconsider whether or not to safely send their students back to Grounds. These decisions are inevitably difficult to make as the current situation of the pandemic prevents the normal experience on Grounds.

It seems as if the best way to cure the quarantine blues is to spend hours and hours on TikTok and social media. In fact, baking and cooking tutorials on TikTok seem to be a big hit this season. One of those recipe tutorials features a fun twist on your everyday instant coffee, which can be easily repurposed since all the ingredients are probably already lying around in your kitchen.

One would think that the 14th day of the month couldn’t approach this quickly. Nevertheless, as a full-time college student, this date seems to emerge out of nowhere amidst the busyness of exams and projects. For me, cravings for sweets go hand-in-hand with this frantic season of assignments. Thus, my journey to satisfy my sweet tooth in a thematic fashion began.

In Northern Virginia, my neighborhood was filled with aesthetically-pleasing locations that promised great coffee and even greater study vibes. I was slightly disappointed at the apparent lack of options for similar cafes in close proximity to first-year dorms.

Imagine a naive first-year’s impulse decision to venture from dorms to the Corner in scorching 96 degree weather. Now, imagine that same first-year 17 minutes later — sweating buckets and seriously considering if figuring out the U.Va. bus system will be worthwhile — in front of The Juice Laundry.
