Virginia women’s squash has the chance to be the strongest it has ever been following a successful season last year as the Cavaliers return the bulk of a rotation that finished ranked No. 4 in the country. But in order to break into the stronghold the top three teams have on the sport, each returning player — as well as potentially a newcomer — will need to be at their best to persevere over a long season.

Student Council’s representative body called for increased influence for the student member of the Board of Visitors, approving a resolution calling for the state of Virginia to allow the student member to have a voting role during Tuesday’s meeting. The representative body also approved an annual budget amendment requesting a net increase of $925.

Virginia men’s soccer concluded its non-conference schedule Tuesday against High Point at Klöckner Stadium. While the No. 14 Cavaliers (9-3-3, 4-2-1 ACC) started slow, a dominant final 60 minutes saw the hosts handle the Panthers (8-3-4, 5-0-1 Big South) 3-1.

The Honor Committee voted to strike the community engagement sanction from their bylaws and to consider ways to address the overrepresentation of international students in Honor cases at their meeting Sunday. The meeting met quorum with 23 out of 29 members present, meaning the Committee could vote on matters regarding the constitution and bylaws.

U.Va. Health has purchased Oak Lawn — a historic home in Fifeville — along with its accompanying five acres of land. The purchase, which is part of an ongoing effort to improve the accessibility of medical treatment in disadvantaged neighborhoods across Charlottesville, was announced in a press release by U.Va. Health on Oct.18. Oak Lawn is located at the intersection of 9th Street Southwest and Cherry Avenue.

Virginia swimming and diving stunned the collegiate swimming world with their star-studded group of new additions to the men’s team — declaring ‘The Revolution is Here’, the Cavaliers announced a new class that includes four of the nation’s top-15 recruits in the high school class of 2025, with the full group being touted by Virginia as the ‘Savage 7’. Leading the class are No. 1 and No. 2 recruits Thomas Heilman and Maximus Williamson.

Coming off of two consecutive conference wins, the Virginia women’s soccer team was riding high on their way into a Senior Day showdown on Sunday with Boston College at Klöckner Stadium. The Eagles (3-9-5, 0-6-3 ACC) had yet to win an ACC game and were desperate to play spoiler to what was surely an important day for the six seniors the Cavaliers (7-3-6, 2-3-4 ACC) have on their squad. Ultimately, Virginia rallied for a 1-1 tie after a late-game equalizer.

This morning, an alleged U.Va. official has stated that we are in a state of emergency as beloved CavMan seems to have disappeared. They announced that last night, CavMan was safely put in his double-vaulted, eye scan-protected chamber after his daily cleaning. However, when they went to check on him this morning for his daily polishing and pampering, they simply saw an empty stand. The news has caused great anxiety and fear among the University’s student body with Cavaliers begging for their beloved hero to be safely returned to his chamber.

The University Judiciary Committee met to conduct a training on sanctioning and complete its annual census during the general body meeting Sunday. The Committee also did some general housekeeping such as asking new members to sign up for the Committee’s mock trial week, which begins Nov. 6.

Two weeks after a disappointing 12th-place finish at the Windy City Classic, No. 28 Virginia returned to the course, looking to bounce back in its final tournament of the season. The team delivered, finishing tied for 5th in a talented 19-team field.

When I arrived at the University as a second-year transfer student, I remember being told that my options were endless. I could remain connected with the transfer community and join organizations dedicated to helping other new transfers acclimate or I could ignore it, join other organizations and leave behind the transfer identifier. Personally, I wanted to forget. I wanted so badly to pretend that I had been a “Hoo” the whole time in part because I thought that my life would be a whole lot better if it was true. As I spent my time trying to figure out my place at the University, I slowly realized that ignoring my experiences would not make me more a part of the community, it would only make me feel more alienated.

The Third Year Council is preparing to host its annual Third Year Ceremony Nov. 5 to honor the Class of 2025’s halfway point in their undergraduate careers. Students who purchased class rings will receive them at the ceremony, with friends and families also invited to attend.

The University’s main library — which has been closed for renovations since 2020 — may reopen next semester under a new name. Following years of critiques over Alderman Library’s namesake, an internal library research naming group submitted a report to the University’s Naming and Memorials Committee requesting a name change for Alderman Library before it opens to students Jan. 2.

Friday afternoon saw No. 7 Virginia field hockey host No. 2 North Carolina on Turf Field in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers (10-5, 3-3 ACC) took a momentous 3-2 victory over the Tar Heels (12-3, 5-1 ACC) in dramatic fashion, coming back from a two-point deficit at halftime to score three goals within seven minutes in the third quarter. The win was extra special for Virginia fans as it came on Senior Day and a celebration of the program’s 50th anniversary.
