The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams sent separate squads to race at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va. The Cavaliers sent 11 distance runners to Raleigh to compete in a variety of events ranging from the 3000 meter steeplechase to the 10000 meter. At the one-day competition, Virginia faced a number of ranked opponents for both men’s and women’s track and field including the SEC powerhouse teams from Florida and Georgia. In Richmond, 30 athletes competed over two days.

Virginia men’s swimming and diving earned a combined 106 points to place 10th overall at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. From Wednesday to Saturday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, the Cavaliers earned 11 All-America honors, including six individual swimmers and three relay events. Additionally, six school records were broken over the four-day competition.

Virginia women’s swimming and diving placed sixth as a team this past weekend at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. The Cavaliers sent 14 swimmers and one diver to compete over four days at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

This past Saturday afternoon, three members of the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., in the NCAA Indoor Championships. Junior Jordan Scott, senior Bridget Guy and junior Brenton Foster took center stage in the their respective field events — triple jump, pole vault and high jump.

The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team concluded ACC Championships Saturday in third place with 1,018 points, behind second place Louisville and first place N.C. State. Coming in seeded and placed seventh based on the diving team’s conference results a week earlier, the Cavaliers put together multiple record-setting days and a total of 14 All-ACC honors to secure a podium finish. The standout performance came from senior Brendan Casey, finishing the meet with a total of 92 points and in a three-way tie for top point scorer.

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Blacksburg to compete in the ACC Championships this past Thursday through Saturday at Rector Field House. The Cavaliers faced off in a multitude of events, finishing fifth overall with 49 points on the men’s side and ninth overall with 31 points on the women’s side. The only win came from junior Jordan Scott in the triple jump — however, three second finishes and three third-place finishes earned the Cavaliers seven podium finishes and seven first-team ACC honors.

The Virginia women’s swimming and diving team traveled to the Greensboro Aquatic Center last weekend, looking to claim their 11th ACC title in 12 years and 16th in program history. The Cavaliers entered the four-day battle royale with the No. 5 seed nationally, behind NC State at No. 4. From Wednesday to Saturday, Virginia consistently beat out the competition to finish in the silver medal position.

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams split up for the weekend, traveling to Clemson, S.C., for the Tiger Paw Invite and Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic. Both two-day competitions featured numerous ranked opponents, including top-5 programs such as Florida State, Florida and Texas A&M.

For the fourth-straight weekend, the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams competed on the road. Traveling close to home to Lynchburg, the Cavaliers competed against a number of regional competitors including top-25 ranked Campbell. This past Saturday, Feb. 2, the team built on their early season success by setting a Virginia record and a number of career-best performances.

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams competed this past Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18 and 19, in the Keydet Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va. Both squads returned to action after opening the season last weekend at the Nittany Lion Challenge. The two-day meet consisted of Virginia in competition with 22 programs, including six student-athletes that place in the top 25 nationally in an event. Facing their first real test of the season, the Cavaliers responded by setting four facility records along with a multitude of PRs and first-place finishes.

Over the weekend, the No. 11 Virginia women and the No. 16 Virginia men swept both Tennessee and Virginia Tech to cap off the last home meet of the season. On Friday, the women defeated No. 5 Tennessee 178-122, while the men beat the No. 11 Volunteers 158-142. On Saturday, the women, for the second day in a row, routed their opponent, Virginia Tech, 171-115, and the men also topped the Hokies, 159-140.

After claiming victory against Texas Tech in a last-minute shootout Friday, the No. 12 Virginia’s women’s soccer team luck ran out in a nail-biter against an evenly matched No. 11 Baylor team Monday, falling 2-1.

This past Monday, the Division I Women’s Soccer 2018 NCAA Tournament bracket was revealed. The Cavaliers (15-4, 7-3 ACC) earned an at-large selection to the tournament after finishing third in the ACC and advancing to the semifinals of the ACC Championship. They were given a No. 3 seed and a first-round matchup Friday at home against the Monmouth Hawks.

Every year from late October to early December, the Virginia women’s soccer team gears up for postseason play. It begins with the Cavaliers earning a spot in the Elite Eight of the ACC to compete for the ACC Women’s Soccer Championship. One week of play, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 4, decides the winner of the ACC. After that, the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee will select a field of 64 teams to compete for the National Championship. Thirty-one conference champions qualify automatically and the rest are selected at-large by the committee. With multiple rounds and repeated play, the Cavaliers have a huge road ahead of them as they compete for their first ever national championship title.

The No. 11 Virginia women’s soccer team took care of business this past Sunday by defeating Louisville by a score of 2-1 to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. Despite an early goal by the Cardinals (12-6), the Cavaliers (15-3) rebounded and showed tremendous resolve to come from behind and finish the match on top.

The No. 6 Virginia women’s soccer team faces two very different opponents on their last weekend of regular season conference play. Facing the less distinguished of the two away teams, the Cavaliers marched all over Syracuse (3-13, 0-8 ACC) in a comfortable victory Thursday night. Game two is set to be much more of a contest, as the Cavaliers square off against No. 14 Florida State (11-3-2, 4-3-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon.
