The Virginia men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Indiana Monday for the NCAA Championships, their last and most important race of the season. And even though in the past few weeks the men's and women's teams have seen their seasons take turns in vastly different directions, they both will enter the race with the same goal: Leave absolutely everything that they have on the course.

The No. 12 Virginia women's cross country team left nothing to chance in its quest for a trip to the NCAA Championships as it claimed the Southeast Region Championship Saturday morning, earning an automatic bid to next week's national race. The No. 21 men's team, however, finished sixth at the regional race and had to wait until Sunday night's announcement of at-large bids to find out that they will accompany the women to Indiana next week to compete in NCAAs.

The Virginia men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Louisville, Ky. this weekend to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, which could be their last race of the season. A strong showing would earn the team a bid to the NCAA Championships in Indiana Nov. 22.

Senior All-American Emil Heineking crossed the finish line at Panorama Farms this weekend in a very familiar manner - one finger raised to the sky, letting everyone know that he had captured the individual title on the Cavaliers' home course for the second year. Unfortunately for the No. 17 men's cross country team, however, Heineking's individual performance was not enough to earn the team title. It finished runner-up to No. 9 Duke, 31-40.

The Virginia men's and women's cross country teams finished in first and second place at the 37th annual Brooks-Paul Short Run Invitational this weekend at Lehigh University. The No. 22 Cavalier men earned their first-ever title at the Invitational, edging No. 24 Georgetown 132-149, while the No. 12 women finished runner-up to No. 6 Georgetown.
