The No. 6 Virginia women’s soccer team secured a 4-0 win against East Carolina Friday night as part of a double-header with the men’s soccer team. Students and fans crowded Klöckner Stadium to watch yet another explosive offensive performance as the Cavaliers (3-0, 0-0 ACC) routed the Pirates (0-1-1, 0-0 AAC).
Virginia (2-0, 0-0 ACC) defeated UC Irvine (0-2, 0-0 Big West) and Liberty (0-2, 0-0 ASUN) at home this weekend in shutout performances. The Cavaliers found success offensively, scoring a combined 13 goals in the matches. Freshman forward Diana Ordonez leads the team with four goals and scored a hat trick against Liberty, while sophomore forward Alexa Spaanstra contributed five assists between the two matches.
After advancing to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the 14th consecutive season in 2018, Virginia enters the 2019 season ranked No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. The Cavaliers (22-30, 8-16 ACC) beat the Pirates (23-25, 7-17 Big South), ending their regular season at The Park with a no-hitter. It was Virginia’s last game at The Park, as they will move to a newly constructed stadium in the 2020 season.
