The No. 18 Virginia baseball team won two of three games over the weekend at home against Eastern Kentucky . Though the Cavaliers (4-3) gave up three runs in the ninth inning to lose 7-6 on Friday, they won 12-3 and 13-1 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to take the series.

Throughout the winter season, I’ve been covering the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams. A lot of the time, diving gets forgotten in casual conversation — but the consistently strong performances of Virginia’s divers, especially the women, have been a major part of their success this season.

The Virginia baseball team lost 9-4 to VMI in its home opener at the newly renovated Davenport Field at Disharoon Park Tuesday night. The Virginia Athletics Foundation and the University department of athletics announced plans on Tuesday to rename the stadium Davenport Field at Disharoon Park after donors Leslie and Ann Disharoon, pending formal approval by the Board of Visitors.

The Virginia baseball team will open uts season this weekend at the University of Central Florida Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The Cavaliers will play three games over the course of the weekend — against UCF, Samford and Rice.

The Virginia softball team will begin its 2018 season this Thursday with a doubleheader at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. as part of the Cowgirl Classic. Last season, the Cavaliers won eight of their final 10 games of the regular season — including a seven-game win streak — to reach the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2013. The team also got its first win over a ranked opponent since 2014, a 5-4 victory at then-No. 14 James Madison.

The No. 8 Virginia women’s swimming and diving team (10-0) defeated No. 15 NC State (3-4) 178-117 Friday and No. 21 North Carolina (4-3) 196-104 Saturday. The No. 23 Cavalier men’s swimming and diving team (6-4) lost 193-100 to No. 6 NC State but defeated North Carolina (3-4) 192.5-101.5.

The Virginia dive team competed at the three-day-long Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. at Rutgers this past weekend. The Cavaliers did not send swimmers to compete in this meet.
