Students involved with Be The Match at U.Va. held a bone marrow drive Thursday in honor of third-year Nursing student and group president Jayla Kemp’s late boyfriend, D’Marco Jackson. Thursday's event marked the second time the organization held the drive in Jackson’s name.

The University’s incoming Class of 2021 is going to be impressive. According to statistics provided by Dean of Admissions Gregory Roberts and Senior Assoc. Dean Christy Pratt, of the students entering the University, 89.4 percent were in the top 10 percent of their graduating high school class. Their average SAT mean score was a 1,363 based on the newly redesigned SAT scoring guide.

Multiple changes are being considered for the Echols Scholars Program following a report by a committee that reviewed the program. After documents on the potential changes started circulating among Echols Scholars last week, the recommendations have been met with concerns from some current scholars in the College’s undergraduate honors program.

Garden lovers congregated in the University’s Small Collections Library Monday to learn about the Rotunda’s restoration as part of 2017’s Historic Garden Week in Virginia, which welcomes visitors to 250 locations spread across the state, and helps fund conservation and restoration projects with revenue from tours.

Student candidates spent less than half of what they were anticipating on recent University elections, according to the final campaign expenditure report released by the University Board of Elections Monday. In an interim campaign expenditure report, candidates had anticipated spending a total of nearly $6,800. The final expenditure report, however, shows candidates actually spent $3,343.64.

Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney candidate Jeff Fogel has made marijuana legislation a prominent issue in his 2017 campaign for office, and said he would not prosecute small possession charges of marijuana at the Jefferson Area chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws Feb. 9.
