While winter has brought a chill to Grounds, not even the cold can cool down the University Salsa Club. Referred to by its members as the “spiciest” Contracted Independent Organization on Grounds, the Salsa Club is a completely student-run organization that celebrates and shares Latin dance with the University community. Offering everything from weekly lessons to lively performances, the club gives everyone the opportunity to learn and grow through the collaborative art of social dancing.

Just in time for the holiday season, director Paul King has whipped up another wonder-filled film for audiences to cozy up to. A prequel to 1971’s “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” King’s “Wonka” delves into the title character’s backstory, showcasing his life before he became a world-renowned chocolatier. Ahead of the movie musical’s theatrical release Dec. 15, cast members Timothée Chalamet and Keegan-Micheal Key sat down for a roundtable interview with student journalists to talk about becoming their characters, and the fun had while working on the project.

The Presley dynasty has captivated the public’s mind for the last two years, and this month’s premiere of “Priscilla” indicates that this prominence is not going to fade any time soon. Initiated by the release of Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” in 2022, this revitalized infatuation with Elvis has retrospectively amplified interest in the relationship between him and his ex-wife Priscilla. However, where Luhrmann’s film is a flashy biopic that casts her off as a minor character, “Priscilla” is a beautifully subdued and empathetic depiction of her coming of age and falling in love with a larger-than-life musical icon.

In the Paramount Theater Saturday, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown mall, sat a room full of film enthusiasts all gathered for a screening of “War Pony” and a discussion with writer-directors Gina Gammell and Emmy-nominated actress Riley Keough. The two talked about the making of their joint directorial debut and the importance of showcasing Native American stories.

There is a corner of the internet reserved for every community, and this is especially the case for book lovers on TikTok. Cleverly coined as “BookTok” by users, this space for bibliophiles on the social media platform has amassed a generous following, with the videos under its hashtag accumulating over 190 billion views globally. The rapid growth BookTok has gained since its inception in 2020 has garnered attention from media outlets, a designated table in every Barnes & Noble and, most notably, immense influence in the film and television industries.

Every Thursday evening in the belly of Brooks Hall sits a collection of poets, creatives and arts enthusiasts that make up Flux, the University’s student-led poetry and spoken word organization. The only group of its kind at the University, Flux plays a unique and important role in the community, giving its participants a place to express themselves and a platform to share their work.

The evening’s performance was a culmination of years worth of composing and arranging, taking the audience on a journey through McNulty’s time as a musician at the University.
