After having the weekend off, Virginia faced Liberty in a midweek, out-of-conference matchup Tuesday night. The Cavaliers (14-27, 3-12 ACC) were unable to get on the scoreboard, giving the Flames (27-16, 10-2 Big South) the 4-0 shutout victory.

In its first ACC road game of the season, Virginia lost 10-3 to NC State. The Wolfpack (11-16, 5-1 ACC) came up with some big hits in the last two innings to keep Virginia (10-16, 2-7 ACC) from threatening its early 3-1 lead. One of those hits was a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning from NC State freshman Haley Finn, bringing the game to 7-3. Despite the Cavaliers getting two more runs on the scoreboard in the next inning, the Wolfpack got a three-run home run to make its lead 10-3 and out of grasp for the Cavaliers.

After dropping a game to Radford on the road, the Virginia softball team returned to Charlottesville to host its second ACC opponent of the season in a three game series. Ultimately, Boston College came out victorious, picking up the series with wins in the first and last games.

Virginia began the Kajikawa Classic by putting up a battle against two very skilled Pac-12 teams. In the game that kicked off the start of the tournament — and the season — the Cavaliers (2-3) fell to No. 9 Oregon, 11-6. Although the Ducks (5-0) started the game with a 9-0 lead, Virginia fought its way back into the game by scoring four unanswered runs.

The Virginia softball team kicks off its 2017 season Thursday with the Kajikawa Classic in Arizona. On the first day of the tournament, the Cavaliers will take on Pac-12 opponents Oregon — who finished the season last year 10th in the country — and Arizona State. The Cavaliers will compete against Western Michigan, the University of Texas at El Paso, and will conclude the tournament with a game against San Jose.

Although the No. 9 Virginia men’s basketball team prepares to play an unranked Syracuse opponent, the Cavaliers (17-4, 7-2 ACC) won’t take the game lightly. Traveling to the Carrier Dome to face Syracuse (14-9, 6-4 ACC) will bring back memories of when the two teams met last year in the 2016 NCAA tournament, and the Orange stunned Virginia with an unlikely come-from-behind victory.
